About Valley Shore Acappella

Who We Are

Valley Shore Acappella is a women's chorus that rehearses weekly to sing, perform, socialize and learn about vocal production and barbershop harmony. After receiving its official charter from Sweet Adelines International in 1977, the chorus became popular around the state, entertaining a wide variety of audiences with its unique blend of barbershop harmony.

Performance

Our goal is to sing! We love performing for everyone and anyone, and our ringing barbershop chords can be heard at many locations/events around the state, including the Ivoryton Illuminations, the Niantic Holiday Stroll, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  Need entertainment for your next event? Consider the Valley Shore Acappella for your upcoming function. The chorus frequently performs at local fairs and festivals, weddings, private parties, corporate banquets, business gatherings, fraternal organization meetings, retirement homes and senior centers, hospitals, schools, restaurants and malls. Contact Carolyn Douglas for more information (email:  foryourpaws@gmail.com or 203-213-7297).

Education

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

Competition

Competition is in the spring of every year, Valley Shore Acappella participates in the Region 1 chorus competition in Springfield, MA. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. The 2019 International Competition will be held in New Orleans, LA.

Quartets

Choruses often have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus.  Valley Shore Acappella is currently home to two wonderful quartets, Quattro comprises four of our own members while our director, Angie Clark, sings with VOCE.  We are very proud of our quartets!  Click here to learn more about them.
